Art exhibition - 25 to 27 October
delphic presents selected works from North Queensland based artist Danish Quapoor's ‘good grief’ series alongside complementary new works. These include illustrative biomorphic paintings on shaped, stretched paper, and an abstract animation. The exhibited fluid forms will illuminate the artist’s interrogation of shifting personal identity, familial relationships and grievances, and otherness within heteronormative regional contexts. These themes are layered with ambiguity, humour and misdirection. The works are also unified by their style, ostensible simplicity and sparse compositions.

ARTIST BIO
Danish Quapoor was born 1989, Tulmur / Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. He is a visual artist, curator and writer based on Gurambilbarra / Townsville. His multidisciplinary practice predominantly spans ceramics, textiles, and illustrative painting, with forays into animation, murals, collage and photography. The artist was recently awarded the 2024 Percival Photographic Portrait Prize from Townsville City Galleries, and the inaugural 2023 School of Creative Arts Alumni Fellow from the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ). He was selected for Outerspace’s online SUPERCUT project (2022), and for QAGOMA’s Art as Exchange program on Girramay Country / Cardwell, North Queensland (2021). In his 15 years of exhibiting, Quapoor has held eight major and six minor solo exhibitions, been a lead artist in six collaborative exhibitions, and participated in over 70 group exhibitions. Quapoor holds a Master of Arts and Cultural Management from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Creative Arts), Honours from UniSQ. He has had work, reviews and writing published in the Journal of Australian Ceramics, Art Guide, Imprint and Lemonade Letters.

Drawing with a Drone by Motoko Kikkawa showcases a unique combination of traditional drawing techniques and contemporary technology.
Japanese artist based in Ōtepote Dunedin, NZ, Motoko Kikkawa drawing practice expands through diverse materials and approaches. Using paint brushes, pencils, ballpoint pens, paper cutting, and ceramics, the artist creates abstract forms and distinctive markings.
Born in Tokyo 1968, the artist has witnessed Japan's rapid technological evolution through the advent of fax machines, personal computers, the rise of the internet and mobile phones. Nowadays, concerns about AI advancement and increased control systems are becoming prevalent, with fears of job loss. Motoko encourages embracing imperfectness and considers that new creations incorporating unpredictable elements can inspire excitement and hope for the future.

Motoko Kikkawa was born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1968 and after obtaining a degree in Philosophy at Nihon University, moved to Dunedin over twenty years ago. Graduating from the Dunedin School of Art in 2010, she has been a vibrant part of the local and national art scene from the outset, as her myriad solo or collective shows, residencies and performances up and down the country attest, in both public and private spaces.
A prolific visual artist primarily creating highly detailed works on paper, Kikkawa is also unafraid to test boundaries, genres and new materials (including video, kirigami from old wallpaper, kelp, clay and mushroom spore tests). She is a talented violinist who regularly plays with various formations and her music-making reflects her approach to art: she listens intently, picks up moods and keys, finding harmonies and atonal notes that suggest new pathways to explore.
Some of her most recent shows and residencies include: suite 2023 (Dunedin Public Art Gallery, 2023); Engine In Nature (Dunedin Fringe Festival, 2021); Reflections of Mind (Audiofoundation, Auckland, 2020); Whakarongo Whakaraupō (Stoddart Cottage, Diamond Harbour, 2023); After Us, Everything (RM Gallery, Auckland, 2022); Presentation Layer: NFT Forms, Platforms and Transference and Material Sense (Ilam Campus Gallery, Christchurch, 2022) and Shrinking Violet (Play_station Gallery, Wellington, 2020). Her recent violin and voice performances include: Whakarongo Whakaraupō – Festival of Sound (Christchurch, 2023); Pyramid Club (Wellington, 2021); Nowhere Festival (Audiofoundation, Whanganui, 2021) and Lines of Flight Festival (Dunedin, 2019, 2017, 2015, 2013).

Reflective Exchanges - Edoardo Hines
Art exhibition - 10 to 24 August
‘Reflective Exchanges’ showcases a selection of Edoardo Hines paintings and poems.
Edoardo explores the themes of self-perception and identity. Their work depicts abstracted self-reflective figures in the evolving nature of personal environments. “A portion of the paintings will represent the intimate nature of the studio space they practice in and the varied objects that hold metaphorical significance to them. The simplicity in the thought of finding beauty from commodities that are sometimes overlooked in day-to-day life as they believe a part of them is represented in the objects that exist and surround them as vessels of service.”
Edoardo’s visual and written body of work captures the artist’s psychological journey over the past six months, including moments of uncertainty, rebirth and personal growth.

'Wannabe a foodie' by Mary Alburry

Mary Albury, is Adult Fan Of LEGO (AFOL) who lives with Cerebral Palsy. Her solo exhibition will present an impressive body of work of LEGO 2D artworks. Join us for the exhibition opening event on Friday, December 8, 6pm.
“Over the past four years, I have been able to both discover and delight in my passion and the endless possibilities and creativity that brick building offers. My obsession with the humble plastic brick began innocently enough, with a visit to the first certified LEGO store at Dreamworld. I couldn’t believe just how much could be built with LEGO. Something sparked a fire in me. I didn’t even know then if I would be able to manipulate the bricks effectively enough to build anything except a massive mess!! After all, my hands don’t always work great and often fail to grip and hold things. My life has been forever changed through LEGO building and this business idea grew out of a desire to showcase and share my creative talents My goal to fully self-fund my once in a lifetime holiday to Billund in Denmark - the birthplace of LEGO.”

‘Become’ by Jeanette Stok
Art exhibition - Saturday October 19th - 25th
Jeanette Stok’s solo exhibition Become, visualises how we create barriers between ourselves and others. The exhibition showcases a comprehensive display of works, including a wearable art piece constructed from black plastic gutter guard, photographs, varieties of sculptures, and hand-drawn black and white animation that analyses the embodied knowledge within embroidery. Visitors are invited to contribute to an evolving artwork which will be facilitated by the artist during a series of workshops.

An experimental audio visual showcase.
Special K3 is an experimental audio visual showcase featuring a seasoned line up of interdisciplinary artists. Hosted by KEPK and curated in collaboration with Made Now Music, this evening event will take place at the heart of in the inner South Brisbane industrial area.
Special K3 features projection based works by Kellie O’Dempsey, Unregistered Master Builder, Chris Bennie, and Abstract Human Radio. Special K3 showcases the blurred lines between jazz, dub, post classical and techno using hardware, electro-acoustic instruments and Hybrid DJ sets.
KEPK is a creative hub, gallery, studio and community located in an old plywood factory in Yeerongpilly. It aims to provide a space for developing creative projects, practice, and for showcasing art exhibitions and experimental audiovisual projects. Special K3 is a presentation of the plurality of KEPK’s creative output.
Featuring a line up of local and interstate artists including Kellie O’Dempsy and Mick Dick, Olympic Pool Maintenance League, Madeleine Cocolas and Unregistered Master Builder, Josten Myburgh (Perth) and the Brodie McAllister Trio. The event will feature the “Party Button” by Steph Piper.

Riot Collective Presents: (RE)DEFINE
Exhibition, Live performance - Saturday May 20
An immersive exhibition showcasing femme, non-binary and genderqueer creatives.
(RE)DEFINE is an immersive exhibition featuring the work of 15 emerging femme, non binary and genderqueer creatives, who explore the disparity in the acceptance of identity, belonging and queerness.
Founded by multi-disciplinary artist and curator A(TOM)ICX in late 2021, Riot Collective has built a community for femme, non binary and genderqueer creatives to share their work and experiences. We strive to create opportunities for queer people, along with challenging heteronormative ideas, perspectives and misconceptions through a variety of immersive events.
(RE)DEFINE features a selection of multimedia installations, interactive performance art, photography and canvas works, each dissecting the concept of identity and “queerness” from the artist’s personal experiences.

Leanne Stewart-Haugh - It is About Time
Exhibition - March 17th - 26th
‘It is About Time’ presents a solo exhibition of paintings by Leanne Stewart.
Leanne’s current preoccupation is in the examination of thoughts surrounding the passage of time. The artist’s paintings depict colourful Australian landscapes with multiple curved horizons and lost perspective.
“There is no stillness in these works, as the Earth itself is never still; the paintings pulse with light and colour. Each work is an exploration of that still point of perspective around our own existence. One we tenuously share with all other life forms. Like space itself the horizons curve through the artworks and morph into organic, flowing forms that resemble trees, or animals. Light, shadow and sound reference the ways in which time gathers all life, to spin us all out toward that eternity we chase.”

A group exhibition of circular forms, curated by Claire Grant. Tondo (plural tondi) is a Renaissance term for a circular work of art. Challenging tradition, these thirteen artists dare to break outside the square. The exhibition features an assortment of material explorations, including sculptural installation, ceramics, experimental photography, found objects, digital projection, and sound performance.
