Riot Collective Presents: (RE)DEFINE

Exhibition, Live performance - Saturday May 20

An immersive exhibition showcasing femme, non-binary and genderqueer creatives.

(RE)DEFINE is an immersive exhibition featuring the work of 15 emerging femme, non binary and genderqueer creatives, who explore the disparity in the acceptance of identity, belonging and queerness.

Founded by multi-disciplinary artist and curator A(TOM)ICX in late 2021, Riot Collective has built a community for femme, non binary and genderqueer creatives to share their work and experiences. We strive to create opportunities for queer people, along with challenging heteronormative ideas, perspectives and misconceptions through a variety of immersive events.

(RE)DEFINE features a selection of multimedia installations, interactive performance art, photography and canvas works, each dissecting the concept of identity and “queerness” from the artist’s personal experiences.

Prince Peace: Sweet Little Head Single Launch

Gig - Saturday December 17th

From a land far far away, where darkness is painted in pastels and bassists are dressed in pink, three piece Alternative rock outfit Prince Peace, present their debut single release, Sweet Little Head, supported by Madeleine Cocolas & Jo Davie.

Prince Peace create an intimate and cathartic journey, telling tales of identity and woe. Their sound is an ode to early 2000’s alt and late 90’s grunge combining irregular harmony with warm, comforting melodies, providing a bed for the emotionally driven vocals and hard hitting lyrics to capture the full meaning of expression.

Our Beloved Summer

Exhibition - October 22th - 26th

Inspired by Bryan Adam’s famous verse in ‘Summer of 69’
”But when I look back now
That summer seemed to last forever
And if I had a choice
Ya, I’d always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life”!

‘Our Beloved Summer’ reminisces over 2000-2010 Asian Popular Culture, within an Australian context. Through the lens of Instagram Our Beloved Summer reflects on illustration, pastel colours, acoustic and indie vibes, gatherings, familial ties, and the enduring friendships of never-ending summers.

This event shares elements of Asian Pop culture, integral to the cultural upbringing for many Asian millennial and generation Z. These nostalgic popular cultural experiences have since become recognisable irrespective of ethnicity, being shared across geographical borders. Indeed, the sentimental ‘longing’ embraced in this exhibition is universal – and seeing the artists embody the passion and nostalgia of youth leaves us wistfully longing for our own individual pasts, becoming lost in our own assorted memories of hazy summer days.

Presented by Utopia & Fringe Brisbane Festival, curated by Gemma Truong and Perrin Millard, this nostalgic-themed exhibition showcases the work of 12 local creative artists: Damon Ting, Georgia Richards, Jessica Rainier-Pope, Makiko Ramsay, Melody Parade, Michael Develos, Michelle Seo, Perrin Millard, Ruei-Ching Chen, Siluni Kumarapperuma, Tran Lam Ha and Yin Lu.
